Tube Mic string quartet
Author: Edward Kent

Hello
I understand that tube mics are generally not favored for
recording violin r due to shrillness and that classical engineers as a rule prefer small cap condensers, like B&Ks and Schoeps.
Would a mic like the Schoeps M221 used with an omni
capsule be problematic and what causes this problem - is
it the tube's superior ability to capture third order harmonics
as when used on a piano; violins also generate a lot of harmonics.

Appreciate any comments
