Re: ISO: pair of km84s

If I could rev up my time machine and go back to mid l970's, I'd be happy to sell you one of the many pairs of km84's that I bought, used and sold. They were great mics then, and they're great mics now.
But I was never completely satisfied with them. My main use was recording a big Steinway grand piano, and though they did a great job, I always felt there was something lacking.
Having recently acquired a pair of km140's, I'm much happier with the recorded sound of the same piano. There's no 'haze' or indistinctness as with the 84's. The 84's weren't noisy, but the 140's are so much quieter and more transparent.
If km84's turn you, that's great. But for the life of me, if I were given a pair of each of these mics for free and compelled to discard one, it would be the 84's to go. I wish someone would explain why there is such a fixation on this mic, especially since the 184 and 140 are available, new, at reasonable prices.
