Re: ISO: pair of km84s

In the 80´s I used mainly KM 84 and KM 83, as A-XY-B set up, and indeed this set up was really nice to work with.
The thin low-end you hear from the KM 140 and 184 is how the capsule sounds like, the warm extended bass, which I liked also, was just the distortion of the conditioning amp and transformer inside the microphone, and was also away in our own rebuild transformerless 84´s, but kept the nice flat top.
The Km 84 sounds indeed flatter in the HF range than the 140, and I was somewhat surprised the KM 184 has not the flat response as the KM 84. I never liked the KM 140 since it has a phazy brilliance. It´s a pity the KM 184 has the same curve. In fact it should be possible to change that, by altering the capsule bias. In the 80´s we did do some experiments with that, and it was simple to modify the amount of HF lift with that.
