May I assume in the past the middle connection had a mechanical advantage over the perimeter, when the materials used for the membrane, PVC, were not so strong as the modern Mylar-like materials used nowadays, and the use of the center connection nowadays is more a matter of taste and a part of the 'Neumann sound'. When perimeter- and center-connection can come so close in technical values, look at the specs of both the TLM 127 and D01, according to Mike Pappas still sound very different. Therefore I am still looking forward to the test Justin Peacock wanted to perform between those two microphones, e.g.in AB or MS stereo with string quartett. |
