About 'the most natural sound': Perhaps you will be surprised that 'natural sound' is often times not what is wanted. Perhaps the room has some unflattering aspects that could best be avoided. Perhaps the room as HVAC, interior, or exterior LF noise that might be better left unrecorded. On one recent occasion, the group preferred directionals over omnis because the sound was clearer-the group had a trusted coach with them during the sessions, and he ended up listening to the monitors (rather then being in the room) because he could here much better.
Many people consider recordings a separate genre of performance, and exploit that, rather then taking an audio 'picture' of the event, especially when the audio 'picture' contains all sorts of aural distractions.
'Best ways (omnis), best mics (DPAs no doubt), most natural sound, ' and specifications on paper are concepts which ultimately do not play large roles in my real world and collaborative projects.
