HR:
'No favor implied, rather an acknowledgement that directionals are most commonly used for this application.'
Thatīs your statement, and it depends very much from what kind of education you come, or company you work for. I have never used any cardioid for string quartett. It gets scratchy, even with DPA 4011, not because the cardioid type of microphone is bad, but because of the fact your are taking away groundtones in favour for other bands. The four instruments of a stringquartett need to blend together before itīs picked up by a microphone.
HR;
'....and directionals are often what many people buy first when upgrading or starting their collection'.
Unfortunately it is like that,you are right, but that does not imply we should advice somebody now on the Pinboard therefore to use uniīs.
