Mixing with headphones ?

Hi everybody

Owning a home studio today is a gift to every musician or tech guy .We have the chance to work today on semi pro or pro equipment and get results we could only dream about 10 -15 years ago for that money . For example two tlm 193 for the price of one tlm 170 etc....
On the other hand we all ( home studio owners ) are suffering
from the same problem called "Working in not treated rooms " (acoustically) . So my question is :
Is mixing on the headphones (and of course checking the mix on monitor boxes all the time during the mix ) totally wrong?
Next question is which headphones are good for mixing ( i have AKG 240 DF and Akg 240 studio both sound totally different ) ?
And of course do you have any non billion $ tips on how to treat the room and make it "sound better" or more real ( for recording and mixing ) ?
Thanks and a very nice day
