EDITED: KM100 series wireless Phantom Power problem
Author: Martin Schneider/Neumann

Dear Mr. Stauffer,

EDITED:
The Lectrosonics phantom powering concept is "interesting", but doesn't conform with the standard. It should work with KM100, but I would not think it will operate correctly with all existing microphones.
The UH400a input is unbalanced.

The KM100 work fine with balanced inputs.
With unbalanced inputs, as Pin3 is "hot / negative" phase, you have to use a pin-reversal adapter. This connects KM100 Pin3 "hot / negative" to Lectrosonics' Pin2 "hot / positive". Providing you with signal, but of inverted polarity.

Sorry, there is no way to invert signal polarity inside the KM100. Slightly tricky internal rewiring could eliminate the pin-reversal adapter, but not the polarity issue.

An external balanced/balanced transformer adapter would help, IF there were one on the market which would pass the phantom power through to the mic. I'll mail you a schematic of such a transformer solution, from the 1970s, so you can see how such a transformer solution could be wired.

MAIL: I'd need an e-mail address for that....
------------

The newer KM18x microphones have standard Pin2 "hot / positive", and would be unproblematic.

Best regards,
Martin Schneider / Neumann Mic. Development
