Hello,
I need to record a drum with a lot of definition (lets say in the Steely Dan style).
I’m thinking of micing every piece of the drum as follows:
Snare: 2 mics. Bass Kick: 2 mics. HH: 1 mic. Ride: 1 mic. Toms: 1 mic/each Overheads: 2 mics. Ambient: 2 mics.
This is my set of mics.
2 x M149 2 x U87 2 x TLM103 2 x TLM 193 2 x KM 184 1 x TLM 170 1 x TLM 49 1 x M147
Apart from these Neumann mics. I have some AKG’s:
2 x C414 BULS 2 x C414 B XLS 2 x C451B
Finally I have some condenser and dynamic small and big diaphragm mics from other less expensive brands.
The preamplifiers are 4 x Focusrite ISA428 and the converters 2 x Apogee Rosetta 800.
Could someone give some advice on how to choose the best-adapted mic. for each piece of the drum?
I’m sure that there are many different suitable combinations but I would very much appreciate some suggestions to start with. For example Mike Pappas has described in several threads the use of a M150 on bass kick. Should the M149 be suitable for this application?
BTW the drummer is excellent and his gear really the best of the best.
Thank you and best regards Juanjo |
