Hello,

all bi-directional (figure-8) mics have a certain natural low-frequent roll-off. This is partly compensated for by proximity effect, but can of course be equalized after the recording, if the lows should be really not enough.

Wide angle cardioid (a.k.a. subcardioid, or "hipo-cardioide" in French) is nice, but perhaps in an XY-configuration will not provide enough channel separation, or you have to put the capsules at a very wide angle, which is sometimes not ideal for large diaphragm capsules, due to their increasing directivity.
