Re: Recording classical guitar with KM184?

per - the km184 is a wonderful mic for almost any kind of acoustic instrument application, as well as being fantastic as a main ORTF pair for small ensemble work. there are many approaches to micing a classical guitar, and iit is easy to make the mistake of being too close or too far away for that instrument. if you are worried about the 184 being a bit bright for your guitar, simply work with mic placement - placing the mic(s) off-axis, such as in ORTF or NOS, gently rolls off the high end response, but if you need more attentuation of the highs, you can increase the angle between the mics even further. experiment with mic distance also to balance the amount of instrument:room ratio. if using ORTF, i would start with a distance of about 3 feet, and then listen - you will hear whether to get a bit closer or a bit further away. do not use a huge reverb - try to find a nice live room or a good medium room reverb algorithm.
