Re: U47 BUILT IN 1960 WITH VF14 VALVE AND M7 CAPSULE ....

"...preferrably someone without an interest to buy this microphone system or sell you on performing services..."
That describes me to a "T".

To add and clarify: There are very few original 1950s M7 PVC capsules in operation today which still have a good signal-to-noise ratio. Most of these capsules suffer from reduced output, a noticeable white noise hiss, and often drop off in the low frequency range- all signs of deteriorated PVC material and fractured sputtering.

I repeat here what I do when my own U47 with M7 display these problems: I buy a new or used K47- not one made or re-diaphragmed by a third-party provider, but NEUMANN ONLY! In my opinion, nothing comes close to the sex appeal of an original Neumann K47 as replacement for a defective M7.

Having said this, I hope and wish for you that the orignal M7 in your U47 is still in acceptable condition, and sounding wonderful!
