Re: "upside down" mic?

Hello,

The capsule is axially and rotationally symmetrical, so it doesn't care.
The mic is axially symmetrically left / right. Vertically, it is not, so there are *small* differences between sound from, say, 20 up and 20 down.
But the effect for the singer is more pronounced:
- sound radiation from the mouth upwards and downwards differ.
- posture and vocal tract will change, with a microphone coming from above.
And, most pragmatically, as you say, with a mic from above, there is space for a music stand.

Summing up, the directional effect on the mic will be small, compared with what you gain from placing the stand in a comfortable position.

Best regards,
Martin Schneider / Neumann Mic. Development
