Re: M149 & Neve Portico 5012

Hello Phil,

I haven't had a Portico here for measurement yet, and had no negative comments yet regarding this combination, so I can just give some thoughts.

- External P48 shouldn't affect the tube microphones' sound, as external voltages are blocked off in the N149 power supply.

- A second line of thought, output and input impedances, doesn't lead to a conclusion either: The output of the M149 has very low impedance of 50ohms, the input of the 5012 is very high, at 10kOhms. Switching P48 on would add the 2 phantom feeding resistors, of 6.8kohms each (according to the standard), in parallel; but this would result in next to no difference in the load impedance for the microphone. So, unless there is some non-typical phantom feeding configuration in the 5012 (and the manual doesn't give any details) the impedance topic can be ruled out as well.

Anybody else there, with some experience with the 5012?

Best regards,
Martin Schneider / Neumann Mic. Development
