Re: Difference NS 69i and NS 69k?

Hello David,

I am not an experienced engineer, but basically just a simple musician who's been in a lot of studios over the years with a slowly growing interest in recording techniques and microphones. I'm afraid a lot of the technical details you mention are beyond me. I'm very grateful for your comments and I'm not in a position to disagree with your view - if anything, it would save me a considerable amount of cash to stick with the CU48i (serial nr. B403) if the difference is as small as you say.

It's just that I really like this mic and I would like to get the best out of it; I've been using it on all kinds of material - vocals, small female vocal group, acoustic cajun/folk band, acoustic guitar, lesley speaker, etc. I've been experimenting with the different patterns and studying stereo techniques like M/S and I think it's a versatile and great-sounding microphone, so the idea that it could sound even better somehow intrigues me.
If specialists like Klaus Heyne (on the Prosoundweb forum) and German specialist Peter Drefahl (by email) - I quoted them earlier - argue that the SM69fet performs better with the ns69i, who am I to question them...?
The real problem is, of course, that I probably won't be able to do an A/B test anytime soon, so I'll just have to make my mind up - or run into a really cheap power supply...

thanks & regards
