I'm very close to purchase a used U87ai and I need some advice before I take it. The microphone is currently unable to be used since the sound just drops all the time and suddenly peaks! Tests were made about everything else (pre-amp, cables, audio interface) and U87ai is surely the problem. I've also read some other threads about the same problem in which you answered that the problem is the capsule. I did the breathing test and it began doing the problem from the first breathe (!), which i assume is really bad..
The mic surelly needs to be fixed, so what I need information about is:
1) Is there ANY chance that the mic will not be able to be fixed if I send it to you? and
2) If it can be fixed, and the capsule needs replacement and everything goes wrong, etc.., which is the highest price for the mic to be fixed?
Just for your info, the mic was bought 7-8 years ago and it was rarely being used. (surely though, bad use can make the damage anyway).
