Hello Mike,

cooling is certainly not an issue.

We had such foam rings in the 1960s, U67. Such a foam ring is a perfect trap for humidity and dirt, and that's just not what you want in the vicinity of very high impedance circuitry.

Re: physics calculations. Absorbers start to become efficient when the depth is a quarter wavelength, minimum.

Using the console's shelving EQ to attenuate 2 dB above 5kHz could be an alternative.
